All Pleasure…No Business Suit!

As a career woman, you must remain professional at all times…on and off the clock!

I had a night out on the town with close friends and decided to try something a little different. I wore a suit designed by Gibson Latimer. It’s definitely not a suit appropriate for work because of its bodycon fit. However, I still was able to manage yet a professional look!

To give my outfit a BOLD yet sophisticated look, I paired the suit with a black crop top from Love Culture! Xoxo,

Redefining Business Casual

There’s a thin line between business professional and business casual.  Business professional is appropriate during the interview process.  Men should stick to dark suits and ties and ladies may choose to either wear a pant suit or dress suit. Note: Ladies remember, if you wear a dress suit, don’t forget the stockings! Once you’ve landed the job, depending on the environment, business causal may be suitable for the workplace!

Business casual was implemented in the work force to create a comfortable workplace for the employee. One thing to note, although business casual is more lax than business professional, it does not mean that anything goes.

MEN – In the past, business casual for men were khakis with polos or button down shirts and/or pants that were not tailored to the man’s physique. Today’s business casual man is more sophisticated and hip. Take a look at GQ’s issue on “The New Business Casual for more tips on hot trends for men’s business casual” at  http://www.gq.com/style/wear-it-now/201009/new-business-casual-september-gq-style. GQ has some amazing options for you fly guys out there!

LADIES – Ladies, ladies, ladies unfortunately, for us, business casual looks can become a bit tricky so BEWARE of any fashion faux pas! You’re still in a professional environment which means no outfits that will be frowned upon by your employer.  The website, http://www.TLC.howstuffworks.com says, “keep it covered, neutral, and classic.”  If you have a bold and edgy style, why not add some color for fabulousity! Dresses and skirts should be at or below the knee and no, I MEAN NO low tops that show your cleavage…leave that for after 5!  There are tons of tops to choose from, so have fun with them! Remember: Always keep a blazer either in your car or at the office, you never know when you’ll have a last-minute meeting. We have lots of freedom with our shoes. Just make sure to stay far far away from the flip-flops!

Plaid IS the Business!

Plaid IS the Business!
Plaid has been around for centuries (1500 B.C. to be exact). Fashion designers should bow down to Queen Victoria for making plaid a.k.a tartan so popular because she incorporated tartan in her clothing.Plaid was seen all over the runway this fall from designers like Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, Louis Vuitton and Tory Burch, just to name a few. Here are a few of my favorite finds fit for the business scene. Flats are the new heels!

Heels are not always the first thing a woman thinks about when it comes to comfort for a day’s work in the office. She not only wants to be stylish, but she yearns for being stylish and comfortable, especially if she moves about frequently.

For days your feet say “NO TO HEELS,” pair your office look with a pair of chic (preferably black) ballerina flats. I’m wearing Tory Burch flats! I love them…definitely one of my “go to” pieces! Aldo’s, Steve Madden and Zara has some really cute styles that will work well in the office.

My Cynthia Rowley bag is a must have as well! You can use it for practically anything! I store my laptop, books, work and even my Louis Vuitton makeup bag in case there’s an occasion after work! I purchased the bag at Marshalls. Marshalls has a great inventory of Cynthia Rowley accessories. No luck at Marshalls?!?! Click on similar bag below for to buy on Cynthia Rowley’s website.

Transition: From Work to Cosmos!

photo 3I had no time to change when I got off work to meet girlfriends at Tsunami Restaurant in Baton Rouge, LA, to have my favorite Cosmo, “Honey Dew Me,” so I decided to go for a dark top with a mustard color skirt that would transition well from professional to after 5!
